In a heartbreaking turn of events, a poultry farmer in Abuja lost a staggering N150 million in investments after the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) demolished their farm without warning. The farmer, who remains unnamed, expressed deep frustration and anger over the sudden destruction, resulting in the loss of over 5,000 birds.
According to the distraught farmer, the demolition came without prior notification, despite the farmer having all legal documents for the property, including a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O). The aftermath of the demolition has left more than 50 workers unemployed, impacting numerous families during already challenging economic times.
I am heartbroken & angry.

Yesterday, my N150 million investment in a poultry farm located in Lokogoma, Abuja, was DESTROYED by the guys from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
NO WARNING, no prior notice, just pure destruction and over 5,000 birds are dead. pic.twitter.com/zdbKAc428S
The incident raises serious questions about the Nigerian government’s commitment to supporting investments and protecting property rights. The farmer, in a plea directed at government officials, including the FCT Minister, emphasized the need for greater consideration and notice before such drastic actions are taken.
This unfortunate event underscores the vulnerability of investments in Nigeria’s agricultural sector and calls for stronger legal protections for property owners against arbitrary demolitions by government authorities. It also highlights local government authorities’ critical role in supporting or hindering investment in rural areas, where agricultural ventures are vital for economic growth and employment.
The farmer’s story serves as a stark warning to potential investors about the risks involved and the imperative of ensuring comprehensive legal safeguards for their ventures in Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape.
