NYSC Crackdown: Late Arrivals to Camp Spark Outrage as Registration Closes for Batch B Corps Members
The NYSC management has noted concerns raised by some Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) who missed the registration deadline after arriving late at their designated Orientation Camps for the 2024 Batch “B” Stream 2 Orientation Course, resulting in their inability to register.
The NYSC’s mobilization and orientation policies are clearly defined in the governing Act and the call-up letters issued to PCMs.
To clarify, the call-up letter for this batch indicated that registration would close at midnight on Thursday, August 29, 2024, and the Swearing-in ceremony for registered Corps members would be held nationwide on Friday, August 30, 2024.
While the NYSC is committed to its operational policies, the management extended the registration deadline to midnight on Friday, August 30, 2024, following reports of late arrivals from various states.
Despite this extension, some PCMs have taken to social media to demand further extensions, sharing videos of their grievances.
In response, the Director-General visited several camps to assess the situation firsthand. He expressed sympathy for the affected PCMs but emphasized the importance of adhering to the NYSC Bylaws, which include strict compliance with the specified registration dates. Nonetheless, the Director-General instructed that those who missed the registration deadline be provided with accommodation and meals before leaving the camps. He also assured that those who attempted to meet the registration deadline but failed would be considered for the 2024 Batch “C” mobilization.
While the NYSC management sympathizes with the affected PCMs, it is important to remember that the scheme operates under the framework of its enabling Act and Bylaws.
